WOSP-T: Workshop on Challenges and Opportunities in Implementing Tools to Support Performance Analysis

Overview

Performance analysis tools are an essential part of practical R&D, as they can provide insights into the value of new ideas and proofs of concept for the implementation of software systems. They can also provide indications of potential risks in the design, architecture, or implementation of a system. The research and development of new tools are hampered by many challenges, including lack of valid input data, lack of data for the validation of predictions, and incompatibility with other analysis tools or with tools for gathering and computing input parameters and measurements. We seek contributions on the development of new tools to aid the R&D of software systems, contributions that describe impediments to their development, as well as contributions that describe barriers to the gathering of model parameters from disparate sources and methods of overcoming them.

This workshop will include invited talks to stimulate ideas, contributed papers, and a discussion session on topics that would benefit from in-depth consideration.  Parallel discussion sessions may be organized toward the end of the day depending on interests. We may include a tool/poster/demo session depending on the results of submissions.

Suggested Topics

Submissions are welcomed in any of the following areas, as well as in related topics:

• Measurement support for performance modeling
• Building workload models from analytics
• Workload measurement for load generation
• Interfaces between tools based on different modeling principles, methods and assumptions
• Modeling pipelines and decomposition
• Modeling the performance of systems and components under development

Significant Dates

Papers due: Dec. 2, 2018

Author notification: Jan 6, 2019

Final copy due: Jan. 13, 2019 (hard deadline for publication in the proceedings)

Papers

Papers should be original work not published elsewhere. Papers with early partial results, personal views and speculations are encouraged.

Papers will be submitted via Easychair.

Papers may be up to 6 pages in length and should follow ACM guidelines for format.
