How to get there
You might want to consult RouteRank in order to get useful information on your trip.
Arriving by plane - from Pisa International Airport "Galileo Galilei"
- Bus: Take the LAM Rossa (Red Line) bus, just outside the airport, stop at Piazza dei Miracoli, in front of the Leaning Tower, time 15 min: map, timetable. The ticket is 1.00 Euros, and can be purchased at the railway station paper kiosk. Tickets can also be purchased onboard (ask the driver), but this will probably cost you more. Some bus drivers may speak some basic English. Even if they don't, they will definitely help you to reach your destination: just tell your bus driver the stop name and you will be prompted when it is time for you to leave.
- Taxi: time 10 min (fee approx. 8 Euros, probably more at night and on Sundays). Taxi stands are outside the airport. Phone number: +39-050-541600.
Arriving by train - from "Pisa Centrale" Railway Station
Important notice: Pisa has two minor train stations: "Pisa Aeroporto", located besides the Airport, and "Pisa San Rossore", located not far from the hotel. Only local trains stops there, however. When in doubt, refer to "Pisa Centrale" to disambiguate.
- Bus: Take the LAM Rossa (Red Line) bus, just outside the railway station. Cross the road from the railway station and get the one going towards San Jacopo - Pietrasantina (if you take the wrong direction, that will lead you to the airport first, and you'll waste 20 mins). Stop at Piazza dei Miracoli, in front of the Leaning Tower, time 10 min: map, timetable. The ticket is 1.00 Euro, and can be purchased at the railway station paper kiosk. Tickets can also be purchased onboard (ask the driver), but this will probably cost you more. Some bus drivers may speak some basic English. Even if they don't, they will definitely help you to reach your destination: just tell your bus driver the stop name and you will be prompted when it is time for you to leave.
- Taxi: time 5 min (fee approx. 6 Euros, probably more at night and on Sundays). Taxi stands are outside the station, on the left. Phone number: +39-050-541600.
- Walking: it takes 15 minutes
Arriving by car - from A11 Motorway (coming from Rome, Milan or Florence)
Important notice: most of the city center of Pisa (therein including Via Santa Maria, where the conference venue is), is a restricted car access zone. You have to pay for a permit (only in Italian, sorry) in order to be allowed in with your car, and gateways equipped with cameras are at each entrance. If you are staying at a hotel and/or renting a car in Pisa, you can probably arrange for the staff to obtain a permit for you.
If you get lost, do not panic: Pisa is a small town and everybody knows where the Grand Hotel Duomo is, just ask passersby.
