Getting to Glasgow

By Air

Glasgow International Airport

  • 7 miles west of the University.
  • First Bus service (77) connects the West End of Glasgow and the airport and stops minutes from the University.
  • Glasgow Airport Express (500) bus service connects the city centre and the airport.
  • Taxi fare from the airport to the West End costs approximately £35. From the city centre to the West End costs approximately £15.
  • Direct flight connections to all major European hubs, plus North America and the Middle East.

Glasgow Preswick Airport

  • 33 miles south west of the University. 
  • Dedicated rail station (48-minute train ride to Glasgow that depart every 15 minutes during peak hours).
  • Airport bus service to city centre takes around 48 minutes.

Edinburgh International Airport

  • 42 miles east of the University. 
  • Citylink Air Bus Service connects the airport to Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow,.
  • Service takes around 48 minutes, operates every 30 minutes at peak times, seven days a week and runs 24/7.
  • Flights are available to domestic destinations throughout the UK and international destinations including those in America, Canada, Egypt and Europe.

By Train

There are two city-centre terminals, Queen Street and Central (served by Buchanan St and St Enoch subway stations respectively). Timetables are available from www.travelinescotland.com. The nearest suburban rail station is Partick, about one mile to the west of the University. It has an interchange with the underground and with bus services on Dumbarton Road.

By Coach

Buchanan Bus Station is the main terminus for long distance coaches. Routes 11 and 44 run through the main campus from the city centre. Numerous other routes serve Dumbarton Road, Great Western Road and Byres Road. A seasonal tourist bus stops at the University. Timetables are available from www.travelinescotland.com.

Road

Glasgow has excellent motorway links making it easy to travel to most UK cities.

From Carlisle, Newcastle and the south, exit M74 on to the M73, joining the M8 at the Old Monkland junction. M8 exits for the University are J18 if travelling from the south, Edinburgh and the north and J19 if coming from Glasgow Airport and the west. Other main routes serving the University include Great Western Road (A82, north of campus), Clydeside Expressway (A814, south) and Byres Road (B808, west).

Car parking on the University campus and surrounding area is extremely difficult. 

Getting Around Glasgow
